How do I find articles?

Answer

  • Begin your search on the main library webpage in the main search box. This is the box in the middle of the page under "Need It? Find it here!" Type in keywords and click the Search button located below the search box (or press "Enter" on your keyboard). A new page will display of the search results.
  • The search will display links to results for articles, books, and all other materials available in the library as well as full-text online articles and citation information on articles. You will have immediate access to full-text online, but you will have to use the "Request through interlibrary loan" service to get articles with only citation information. However, be aware that sometimes articles are listed as citation only in one database, but another database has full-text online. This is because there are many vendors of the databases that Maryville uses and each one has different copyright access to the articles.
  • You can narrow your selections by clicking on the "Full Text" and/or "Peer Reviewed" in the menu on the left side of the webpage. You may also need to click on options listed in the "Source Types" section immediately below the "Full Text/Peer reviewed" section. If "Academic Journals" is not selected, click that. You may also wish to deselect "Magazines" and "Newspapers."
  • Click on the "PDF Full Text" or "Full Text Finder" link underneath each entry to open the article.
  • You can add any of the articles on this page of search results to a temporary folder. Click on the folder-shaped icon on the right-side of an article. When you have finished adding articles to the folder, scroll to the top of the page. Look for the folder icon and click on it. On the next page you can print the articles, email yourself the articles, save the articles on your computer, or export to one of the citation management applications available.
  • If you receive only citation information in the search results, you will need to use "Request through interlibrary loan" to obtain a copy of the article. The log-on page for ILLiad will open up. Log-on using your MU email credentials (Note: the first time you log-on you will have to provide information to set up the account).
  • Generally, ILL loan requests take an average of 1-2 weeks to arrive.  Article requests average a 3 day turnaround time. There is no charge for ILLiad. You can view instructions and other information regarding ILLiad on this page: http://libguides.maryville.edu/ILL.
